The Scaries of Putting Artwork Out into the World

I touched a bit on this in my FAQs post, but felt the need to delve deeper into the vulnerability of sharing artwork, both online and in-person events.

Opening the Studio Doors: Sharing my creations, whether on social media or at in-person events, feels like swinging open the doors to my creative sanctum. It's a deeply personal act, an invitation for others to glimpse into the emotions, stories, and countless hours invested in each piece.

Craving Acceptance and Praise: There's an inherent human desire for acceptance and praise. While I pour my heart and soul into every artwork, a part of me craves acknowledgment and connection. The validation of others is like a balm, soothing the vulnerability that comes with exposing the innermost facets of my creativity.

The Weight of Expectations: The anticipation of how my work will be received can be overwhelming. There's a delicate dance between hoping for praise and grappling with the possibility of criticism. It's a reminder that, as an artist, I'm laying bare a piece of myself, and the reactions are as varied as the individuals who encounter my creations.

The "Less Than" Feeling: In the world of art, the notion of success is often intertwined with sales. The commercial aspect can cast a shadow on the pure joy of creation. Not every piece finds a buyer, and it's in these moments that doubts can creep in. Am I not good enough? Is my art not resonating? It's a battle against feelings of inadequacy that every artist faces at some point.

Navigating the Emotional Rollercoaster: The journey of an artist is an emotional rollercoaster. The highs of positive feedback and sales are exhilarating, but the lows of silence or critique can be disheartening. It's a constant reminder that art is subjective, and external validation doesn't define the intrinsic value of the work.

Embracing the Journey Despite the Challenges

Cultivating Resilience: In navigating the vulnerability of sharing art, resilience becomes a crucial ally. Understanding that not every creation will be universally embraced allows me to persevere through the uncertainties and keep creating for the sheer joy of expression.

Fostering a Supportive Community: Building a supportive community of fellow artists and appreciators provides a safety net. Sharing experiences, triumphs, and struggles with like-minded individuals creates a sense of belonging and understanding.

Rediscovering the Joy in Creation: Ultimately, the true essence of art lies in the act of creation itself. Rediscovering the joy, passion, and fulfillment that come from expressing my thoughts and emotions through art becomes the anchor amidst the turbulence of external expectations.
